About EXPLORE

The EXPLORE team.

As part of the Hybrid Experience Platform for Human Centered Automation (EXPLORE) project, funded through the Forschungsinfrastrukturen.NRW program, a hardware and software platform is being developed to support the creation and optimization of digital twins. The goal is to enable intelligent automation systems and human-centered AI to be represented in realistic simulation environments. This is the first research infrastructure for digital twins in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region. More information about the project can be found on the EXPLORE project website (German).

The EXPLORE platform is intended to serve as the foundation for GPU-accelerated and physically realistic digital twin environments. The project focuses in particular on the following areas:

• Collaborative development
• Co-simulation (combining multiple simulation environments, each with different strengths)
• X-in-the-loop validation
• AI training at scale

The project is carried out in collaboration with several research groups at Bielefeld University, together with Fraunhofer IOSB-INA and Digital Twin Factory GmbH.

The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the European Union’s Just Transition Fund (JTF), and the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
