Scenarios¶
Overview¶
As of May 2026, the EXPLORE platform is in alpha deployment and already has 25 active users distributed across 16 different projects.
Some of these projects are briefly introduced below.
The technical aspects of some projects are also covered in more detail in the platform documentation.
CIIT Factory Sandbox¶
As part of the project-accompanying research, the Factory Sandbox is used to investigate how multiple simulation environments (Emulate3D and Isaac Sim) can be combined in order to leverage the strengths of each simulator.
CITrack Lab¶
The CITrack Lab at CITEC (Bielefeld University) is being replicated in the simulation environment so that, within the project’s accompanying research, studies on Sim2Real and Real2Sim transfer can be conducted. In this context, the physical lab is intended to reflect the state of the simulation, and the simulation is intended to mirror the state of the lab.
MONOCAB¶
As part of the project EnableATO, the Monocab developed there is replicated in Isaac Sim, and the evaluation of measurement data from the sensor systems also used in the physical system is being tested. The focus is on reliable detection of people, for example to ensure that all passengers have safely completed boarding or alighting.
Usage in University Teaching¶
As part of a lecture’s practical component, undergraduate students are introduced to a robot simulation environment for the first time and can gain initial experience with robotics without having to go through the hassle of installing software components.
